Only Channel 9 was there as a police chase roared down one of Hickory's busiest highways and ended in a crash.

Channel 9 reporter Dave Faherty is live at the scene on Highway 321 and talked to the suspect behind the wheel.

The driver eventually reversed course and headed south into Hickory where Faherty spotted the pursuit coming right at him.

Faherty saw the SUV heading south along Highway 321 with law enforcement in hot pursuit.

Seconds later, the crash happened and Channel 9 cameras were rolling as the suspect was pulled from the vehicle.

The driver, Steven Keziah, later told Faherty, "The devil made me do it,” as he was put into a patrol car.

State troopers said the chase started in Hickory after they spotted the stolen SUV with a fake tag.

Channel 9 has learned a woman was driving the car initially, but switched with Keziah during the pursuit.

At one point, investigators said they also saw a gun thrown out the window of the SUV.

Investigators said the 20-mile chase reached speeds of 80 miles per hour where the couple did go through several red lights.

Fearing for the safety of others, state troopers performed what they called a PIT maneuver causing the SUV to crash.

It hit a work van belonging to Charter Cable traveling in the opposite direction.

Channel 9 is still waiting to learn the exact charges in the case.

Police believe the gun they recovered may be stolen as well.
