CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This year’s Duke Mayo Classic that was scheduled to take place at Bank of America Stadium Sept. 26, will now be played at Wake Forest University’s Truist Field, the Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF) announced Wednesday.
The game, previously known at the Belk College Kickoff, features a matchup between the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

In accordance with guidelines from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services concerning COVID-19, the game will not be open for fans to attend.
“The Demon Deacons already host Clemson at home on Sept. 12 before traveling to North Carolina State and then playing the Duke’s Mayo Classic against Notre Dame. As we continue to follow the guidelines and advice of government and public health officials, playing this game at Truist Field made the most sense,” Danny Morrison, executive director of the CSF said in a news release.
Fans who purchased tickets through the CSF will have their tickets refunded to the original payment source. Fans who would like their payments applied to the 2021 season or have any additional questions, can contact CSF at tickets@charlottesports.org.

In June the CSF announced that Carolinas-founded Duke’s Mayonnaise would be the new title sponsor of the regular season college football game and postseason bowl game, previously known as the Belk Bowl.
The date for the 19th annual Duke’s Mayo Bowl has not been announced. For the first time, the bowl game will feature a matchup of the Atlantic Coast Conference against the Big Ten Conference. The Southeastern Conference will rotate with the Big Ten every other year.
The two games have had a combined economic impact of $145 million to the Charlotte community over the past three years. In addition to $78 million in direct spending, the games have been responsible for 135,000 hotel room night bookings.
