CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Eastway Drive was shut down near Sugar Creek Road in east Charlotte early Thursday morning after a crash knocked down power poles and left lines across the road.
Police said the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. when a woman fell asleep behind the wheel and slammed into the pole.
She was not hurt and police told Channel 9 that she will not be facing charges.
The crash took down Duke and AT&T lines.
Channel 9 checked with railroad companies but was told the wreck would not have an impact on trains.
Duke Energy told Channel 9 that their crews are so busy running around town dealing with the damage caused by Wednesday’s storm that it will be hours before they can reopen the road.
