Eligible families can receive $250 for opening Trump Accounts

WASHINGTON — The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation is offering $250 for each eligible child whose parents sign them up for a Trump Account.

The money is starting to show up in the accounts of children under 10 years old who live in ZIP codes where the median income is less than $150,000. That includes most ZIP codes in the Channel 9 viewing area.

Any child born during the Trump administration also receives a $1,000 seed contribution.

Trump Accounts are investment accounts designed to grow over time.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Channel 9’s Joe Bruno the program gives families an opportunity to learn more about investing and financial markets.

“I think that this is the most important social benefit, or societal benefit, government benefit for young people since the GI Bill,” Bessent said. “And we see what the GI Bill did for education, and I think this can do it for financial education because for a lot of people, they hear Wall Street, that’s for somebody else, and now it can be for them.”

Families, friends and employers can contribute up to $5,000 a year.

At age 18, the funds convert to a traditional IRA.
