HICKORY, N.C. — A former Hickory firefighter is facing a felony charge after authorities say he set fire to a vacant mobile home in Vale.
Bo Skylar Johnson, 35, of Connelly Springs, was arrested Monday and charged with felony burning certain buildings, according to court documents.
The arrest warrant said an old mobile home on Providence Church Road was set on fire Aug. 14, according ot the Hickory Record.
The home, which belongs to Glenda Laws, was vacant at the time, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Johnson previously worked as a firefighter for the city of Hickory and the Valdese Fire Department.
He resigned from the Hickory Fire Department in December 2025 after joining the department in 2018.
He also worked as a part-time firefighter in Valdese from 2017 until his resignation in 2024.
Johnson is being held in the Catawba County Detention Center without bond. He is scheduled to appear in Catawba County District Court on Wednesday.
Johnson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
