CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emergency crews had to respond to a home in east Charlotte early Thursday morning after a tree toppled over onto it.

First responders were called to the house on Dade Street, near The Plaza around 6 a.m.
The tree fell from a neighbor's yard into a boy's bedroom and a large limb tore part of the roof off. Officials told Channel 9 the force of the impact was so strong that it knocked the boy out of his bed.
"We were all sleeping and we just heard a big explosion, a big boom. And when I went upstairs, I just saw an open room so I didn't see my son in the room," said April Hood, the boy's mother.
The family went to the hospital to get checked out but nobody was hurt, according to officials.
Channel 9 Meteorologist Vicki Graf took a look at the tree, and at first glance it looked healthy, but when looking at the roots, rotting was apparent. With the ground so saturated there is the concern for more trees to be knocked over across the area.
A building inspector will come out to the home to check the foundation later Thursday morning.
