SENOIA, Ga. — A family took their 19-year-old cat to an animal hospital to be euthanized, but then learned she was still alive a year and a half later, according to our sister station WSB-TV in Atlanta.
The cat’s owner, Brian Jagt, said his family’s Ragdoll cat named Annie suffered a severe decline in health in February 2025. He said he didn’t want her to suffer anymore, so he paid a Georgia animal hospital $300 for the euthanasia and cremation.
In late July, his son learned from a friend who works at the hospital that an employee took the cat home instead and had been taking Annie to the hospital frequently since February 2025.
In Jagt’s statement to police, he said the employee even posted pictures holding Annie on her Facebook page and the animal hospital’s website.
One of the business owners declined an interview with WSB-TV. However, they said the vet and technician made the decision to keep the cat alive out of compassion for an animal that they thought did not warrant euthanasia.
Annie was euthanized on Aug. 13. The hospital owner says the family was refunded all they paid for, and the family does not plan to press charges.
