HICKORY, N.C. — Family members of a Hickory cab driver fought back tears as they faced two teenage girls accused in his death.
On Thursday, a grand jury indicted 16-year-old Emily Starnes and Consandra Tyree on charges of murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Sitting just feet away was Stephanie Patrick, the sister of Adam Williams, who police say was stabbed while working for Yellow Cab last August.
“The girl looks so young to be involved in murder,” Patrick said.
After Williams was killed, police charged Camyron Johnson and Matthew Hopkins with murder.
The two 16-year-old girls were only charged with obstruction of justice initially, but investigators believe the two knew more than what they were telling.
After meeting with the district attorney, they went to the grand jury last week.
“There's no question about involvement before, during and after the crime,” said Capt. Thurman Whisnant with Hickory Police.
Patrick said she is still in disbelief that her brother, who had two young children, is gone.
“What's the reason?” she said. “We just want to know why.”
