CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Witnesses said they saw someone intentionally run over a family of geese on Rea Road near Four-Mile Creek Greenway, in south Charlotte.

“A lot of times you see cars stop and let the geese cross and go on their way,” Charlotte resident Sarah Walker said.

Maria Brenese, who works at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, was appalled by what happened.

“It's overwhelming and it’s heartbreaking,” Brenese said. “They are kind and gentle animals, and we cannot wrap our heads around why someone would do that.”

Last month, two geese were beaten and one was killed in Charlotte. Three others were shot with darts.

Intentionally killing a Canada goose is a crime.

Contact police if you have any information about the geese that were run over.
