HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Carolyn Averill pointed to the wall of pictures that tell the story of her son. The adorable baby, the one who sat on Santa's lap and grew into a young man, would have been 20 on Sunday if Peter Jordan hadn't been shot and killed nine months ago, outside a friend's apartment in Huntersville.

"With the holiday season, it's extremely hard on us, and Peter was always the life of the holidays," Averill said.

As she choked back the tears, Peter's mother spoke of the son with the huge heart and of the tremendous hole his murder has left in her own.

"Very difficult on the entire family. I spent about two hours at the cemetery on Sunday just sitting there and wishing that he was here with us," Averill said.

Huntersville police Chief Cleveland Spruill took the podium to plead for information that would help his officers solve the case.

"We believe that someone out there may have information," Chief Spruill said.

He wouldn't discuss possible motives but Jordan's murder has clearly struck a nerve -- police are offering a $10,000 reward for the answers that have eluded them so far.

"There have been many leads, we followed up on all of them. There have been possibilities, some of which we continue to explore," Spruill said.

If you have information that will help solve the case, call Huntersville police at their main number, 704-464-5400.
