CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Thanksgiving Day, a Charlotte family was still grieving the loss of a 7-year-old boy, killed nearly three months ago.
Thursday, the family of Kevin Rodas placed balloons, teddy bears and race cars on his gravesite.
The boy was gunned down as he stood in the front yard of a home on Fieldvale Place on Labor Day weekend.
Kevin was celebrating the birthday of his cousin when gunshots rang out. He was one of 12 people shot over the Labor Day holiday weekend and was one of five killed.
Gladys Rodas told Channel 9 it’s been difficult living without her son, but she believes God will allow her to see his killer’s face.

“It is very hard. Not only today, but everyday," she said. "I’m waiting on police to have something. Kevin isn’t coming back. I want to see justice.”
Merly Cruz is Kevin’s older sister. She said life is unbearable without his smile and laughter.
“I remember him because he was a very happy child,” she told Channel 9.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have made one arrest in the Labor Day shootings but Gladys said she hasn’t heard much from detectives since her son was killed.
She plans to meet with them next week in hopes of getting an update on the search for Kevin’s killer.
