CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An 11-page federal document chronicles a history of alleged criminal activity at the Red Roof Inn on Queen City Drive.
FBI agents said they first investigated the motel back in January 2012 when a confidential informant told authorities a large quantity of cocaine would be delivered to the hotel.
Law enforcement officers say they found the suspect with 29 grams of cocaine and 910 grams of marijuana.
Over the next several years, the FBI conducted numerous undercover operations at the Red Roof Inn. In September 2012 during the Democratic National Convention, Charlotte’s Child Exploitation task force led a prostitution sting at the Red Roof Inn.
Inside one of the rooms, agents found two females, ages 16 and 17 years old.
The FBI says a man known as Shahid Muslim was prostituting women and girls at the hotel.
He was later convicted.
The agency said the sex trafficking of minors continued throughout 2013 and 2014.
According to the FBI, some suspects even paid hotel managers and maids at the hotel not to tell law enforcement about their illegal activities.
The FBI said despite numerous attempts to contact the owner, Chandresh Patel, to discuss the increase in criminal activity, the crimes continued.
The agency even noted numerous complaints from hotel guests listed in the hotel’s online reviews.
The Red Roof Inn terminated its franchise agreement with the Inn, according to a statement from the company Wednesday.
