House fire in northeast Charlotte intentionally set, investigators say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A house fire Thursday morning in northeast Charlotte was intentionally set, investigators said.

Crews were called out around noon to the 500 block of Volunteer Court. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating.

It took 23 firefighters to bring the incident under control in 29 minutes, officials said. There were no injuries to any of the firefighters. Two other home sustained minor damage due radiant heat from the fire.

Cynthia Kendall lives next door and was kept from going back into her home while arson investigators on scene.

“I found out that they had to bust in my window and the siding on my house has melted,” Kendall said.

Damage was estimated at $75,000, fire officials said.

The arson investigation is ongoing.
