CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Both of Charlotte’s primary hospitals welcomed their first New Year babies just after midnight Sunday morning.
Charlee Marie Kraft was born at 12:23 a.m. at Carolinas Medical Center, making her the first baby of 2017 out of the three Charlotte hospitals that are part of Carolinas HealthCare System.
“It was a pleasure to share in a wonderful experience on the first day of the year,” said delivery doctor Kelly Rouse.
Charlee’s parents are Lisa and Jason Kraft, of Charlotte, and the family said, “Nothing better to bring in the New Year with a beautiful baby girl. Happy New Year, everyone!”
Charlee weighed in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces and is 19.5 inches long.
Meanwhile, the first baby of the New Year born at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center happened at 1:52 a.m., and it was a boy.
Khylin Cheyenne Gomes, son of Katrina Gaither and Ameche Gomes, weighed in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces and is 19.5 inches long.
Dr. Colleen Cardella delivered the boy, who also has four other brothers.
The babies and their mothers are all doing well.
