Former Charlotte mayor could be sentenced next week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Mayor Patrick Cannon will be sentenced on or after Sept. 3.

A presentence investigation report has been finalized.

Cannon resigned as Charlotte's mayor in March after federal investigators arrested him on bribery and corruption charges.

He pleaded guilty to corruption charges in June.

Cannon faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.  Many legal experts say he's most likely to receive a sentence of four to six years.
