Former CMPD officer convicted of sexual assault to be released from prison

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A former Charlotte Mecklenburg police officer convicted of sexual assault will be released on Friday.

Marcus Jackson was sent to prison for two years for assaulting six women while on duty in 2009.

The crimes happened while Jackson was on patrol and in uniform.

The city settled civil suits with most of the victim.  But two of the victims decided not to accept an offer from the city.

We haven't been offered something that I think is remotely reasonable from the city," said attorney Brad Smith, who represents the two women.

Two other victims split a $225,000 settlement, and another was awarded $350,000.

A civil suit against the city of Charlotte will not go to trial until 2013.
