Former counsel sues Winthrop board, citing secret votes and term limit violations

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Winthrop University’s former general counsel is filing a lawsuit against the school’s Board of Trustees.

Christopher Hagins said the board broke the state’s open meeting laws by holding secret spending votes.

Hagins also alleges Winthrop’s leaders served beyond the six-year term limits.

He also said the votes under that leadership were not lawful, according to the Rock Hill Herald.
