HICKORY — A former NBA basketball player has been accused of stealing gas from a Hickory gas station.

Chris Washburn, who played basketball at North Carolina State University, has been charged with obtaining property by false pretenses.

Washburn was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 1986.

According to a police report, Washburn pumped more than $50 worth of gas and drove off without paying.

Channel 9 reporter Dave Faherty said the gas station is located next to the police department.

Police said a store employee identified the 7-foot tall former center from a photo lineup.
