CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a matter of seconds, a former Charlotte Uber driver said he was scammed out of his Social Security number, birthdate and phone number.
The victim, who did not want to be identified, said that a scammer called him pretending to be an Uber representative.
He told Channel 9 that the scammer claimed there was a complaint filed against him and that his account was suspended, so he gave up his information to get back to work.
After the scammer got his information, the man said the scammer used it to hack into his Uber account.

The driver no longer works for Uber.
Channel 9 reached out to Uber to find out what the company plans to do to keep its drivers safe from scams.
Company reps said they are aware of the scam. They said the company would never call drivers or passengers for verification and that it has a two-factor authentication process to protect accounts.
