CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte City Manager Ron Carlee’s last day on the job is Friday.

Carlee took over in 2013 and led the city through many challenges, including a budget crisis and new management at the Charlotte airport.

Some City Council members have questioned Carlee’s management style and accused him of contributing to former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe’s departure.

A search firm will help Charlotte officials find a permanent replacement for Carlee.

Deputy City Manager Ron Kimble will take Carlee’s job temporarily. Kimble said he is happy to fill in, but is ready to spend more time with his wife and their foundation, which raises awareness of domestic violence.

It will make recommendations later in July in hopes of having a replacement by September.
