GASTONIA, N.C. — A Gastonia homeowner says she is upset with runoff from her neighbor’s yard.
“It just has continued and continued and continued,” Mary Humphreys told Action 9 attorney Jason Stoogenke. “I have exhausted every asset that I have.”
She said it’s not so much the amount of water. It’s the mud.
Gaston County officials told Stoogenke that Code Enforcement and Natural Resources both investigated, but determined it was a civil matter between neighbors.
Action 9 hears this issue often, but Stoogenke reminds property owners that, for the most part, water has a right to go where it wants to go. That means the downhill neighbor may get stuck with the runoff.
If you think the situation is unreasonable, you may want to talk to a lawyer. Gaston County recommended the Mediation Center of the Southern Piedmont.
