Gold Line streetcar service will be suspended this weekend for upgrades

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte’s Gold Line streetcar service will be suspended this weekend as crews complete infrastructure upgrades during the annual fall rail shutdown.

The Charlotte Area Transit System said the Blue Line will not be affected and will operate on its regular schedule throughout the weekend.

Drivers should also prepare for road closures along the Gold Line corridor.

Beatties Ford Road and West Trade Street will be closed between French Street and the I-77 overpass, with additional road and lane closures expected along the route.

CATS will not provide a replacement shuttle during the shutdown because of the road closures.

Riders can use regular CATS bus services to reach destinations along the Gold Line corridor.

Bus routes serving the west side toward French Street Station include routes 1 (Mount Holly), 7 (Beatties Ford) and 8 (Tuckaseegee Road).

On the east side, toward Sunnyside Station, riders can use routes 9 (Central Avenue), 14 (Providence Road), 15 (Randolph Road), 17 (Commonwealth Avenue) and 27 (Monroe Road).

Riders should plan ahead and allow extra time for their trips during the weekend shutdown.
