CHARLOTTE — Google said it has finished designing its fiber network for Charlotte and construction has started.

She said fiber technology can increase home value by $5,000.
Last week we reported construction had started for fiber networks in a north Charlotte neighborhood.
The network was built from scratch and requires hundreds of crews and thousands of manpower hours. Google relies on many contractors to bring Google Fiber.
Google expects an economic boom once the network is up and running. Google said the technology has led to the start up of technology companies in other areas.

Some numbers behind Google Fiber construction in Charlotte:
- Constructing 3,200 miles of fiber (enough to stretch from Charlotte to Iceland)
- Installing 19 fiber huts
- Attaching fiber on up to 50,000 utility poles
- Hundreds of construction workers
