CHARLOTTE — A group gathered Thursday night in uptown to oppose the escalation of tensions between the U.S and Iran.

No War Action in Charlotte is part of a nationwide group pushing #NoWarWithIran, organizers said.
A 23-year-old man was arrested without incident uptown because he wouldn’t stop using a megaphone when police asked him to put it down several times.
The group did not have a permit for the operation of “sound-amplification equipment on a public right of way.”
They also oppose the U.S.’ part in the killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
Chants could be heard from the grassroots group, which met at the corner of Trade and Tryon streets.
The escalating tension in the Middle East hits home for some protesters, like Maya Wells.
“I’m here tonight because I’m actually standing up for my family,” Wells said. “They’re in Iran.”
The protesters dispersed peacefully later in the evening.
