CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory helped Charlotte officials break ground Monday morning on uptown's first new office tower since the financial crisis.
The building will house one of the largest global asset management companies in the world.
There's been plenty of construction in Charlotte recently but the one thing there hasn't been since the recession is a new office tower.

The governor, mayor and developers held a ceremonial groundbreaking around 10 a.m. for a new 25-story office tower. It'll be called 300 South Tryon, and it already has an anchor tenant in Babson Capital.
This comes at a time when office vacancy rates are shrinking in uptown. In fact, it is just one of several projects on the horizon -- all of which offer signs of ongoing prosperity for the Center City.
The 300 South Tryon project will get underway in earnest after the first of the year and is expected to open for business -- and businesses -- in 2017.
