CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Police are searching for a man who they said shot his cousin in the chest in Chesterfield County Sunday night, killing him.
Officers told Channel 9 that Brandon Ellerbe was killed on Fordville Road in Cheraw around 8:30 p.m.
Donta Gillespie, 32, who they consider the prime suspect in the shooting turned himself in Monday.
The sheriff told Channel 9 that the two got into an argument and that Gillespie pulled a gun and shot Ellerbe.
The sheriff also said that Ellerbe -- who had 19 siblings -- was a good guy and had never been in trouble, and that he actually taught him in school years ago.
Brandon Ellerbe’s mother said he would never hurt anyone.
"He was special to me and I'm gone miss him very dearly," Maggie Sellers said.
