"The individual did make statements about having in his possession a bomb," Huntersville Chief of Police Cleveland Spruill told us.

Officers set up a perimeter, brought in a police K-9 and located the man, who is now in custody, close to the bank.

"It's just very scary," Helen Munchgesang told Channel 9. "That's my bank, Wells Fargo."

"I knew something was abnormal," Rick Stacks told us.  "I knew it wasn't a normal wreck or anything like that."

Police had parts of the intersection at Statesville Road and Sam Fur Road closed off until nearly 7:30 Friday evening, causing serious backups during one of the busiest times of the week.

"As we were driving up 73 we noticed the commotion and there was tons of traffic," said Munchgesang, "and all of a sudden eight more police cars came and blocked up the road and told us we either had to make a U-turn or go left.”

"In the middle of the day. It’s just insanity," she said. “We just all have to be careful and pray."
