Highway closed after driver ran red light, collided with logging truck, officials say

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — Highway 52 in Albemarle was shut down for hours on Thursday after a crash involving a logging truck and several cars.

Officials said the city of Albemarle police and fire departments responded to the wreck around 9 a.m.

Authorities told Channel 9 a car was heading east Highway 52 and ran a red light at the intersection of West Main Street. The logging truck then slammed into the car.

That logging truck overturned, causing a chain reaction that involved three other vehicles, according to officials.

No serious injuries were reported.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene and could see logs spilled all over the highway. Several emergency vehicles could also be seen.

It was unclear if anyone would be facing charges but the investigation remains under investigation.
