LAKE NORMAN, N.C. — Work is set to begin Monday on the long-awaited widening of N.C. 150 near Lake Norman, addressing decades of congestion complaints, the Charlotte Observer reported.
The $249 million project will expand the road from four to six lanes over a six-mile stretch between Greenwood Road in Terrell and U.S. 21 in Mooresville. This effort aims to alleviate traffic issues that have plagued the area for 40 years.

State highway officials announced the start of the project on Friday, highlighting the involvement of Charlotte-based contractor Blythe Development.
Construction crews will begin by removing trees and installing erosion-control measures between U.S. 21 and Morrison Parkway in Mooresville. Lane closures are permitted between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., allowing work to proceed with minimal daytime disruptions.
As the project commences, residents hope for significant improvements in traffic flow along N.C. 150, marking a major step forward in addressing long-standing transportation challenges in the Charlotte area.
