CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets announced Wednesday that Time Warner Cable Arena will change its name to the Spectrum Center.
The news follows Charter's merger with Time Warner Cable earlier this year.
“We are pleased to have Charter’s Spectrum brand become a part of our arena as Charter prepares to make its entrance into the Charlotte area,” said Fred Whitfield, Hornets Sports & Entertainment president and chief operating officer.
Time Warner Cable entered into an agreement in 2008 for naming rights of the uptown Charlotte arena, which is operated by Hornets Sports & Entertainment.
Over the next several months, Spectrum branding will be put up on the arena to replace the Time Warner Cable Arena branding.
"I prefer Buzz City or Charlotte Hornets,” Hornets fan Robert Little said. “That's what I prefer."
In addition to the new logos, the team is installing a state-of-the-art scoreboard and a new court.
It will be one of the largest in the NBA and be 180 percent larger than the current scoreboard.
The new scoreboard and name installation will be completed before the start of basketball season.
