CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The UNC Charlotte Marriott Hotel & Conference Center’s first guests check in Wednesday — but it’s a project nearly seven years in the making.
The 173,000-square-foot hotel sits on a roughly 4-acre parcel near the PORTAL Building, in close proximity to the light rail.

“This has been a dream for a pretty long time for a number of people,” says Mike Nelson, general manager. “We’re excited to open the doors.”
That $87 million project will be owned by The UNC Charlotte Foundation. Sage Hospitality of Denver, Colorado, operates the facility.
The property is also home to the Golden Owl Tavern, which is open to the public, as well as a private lounge for hotel guests.
