VALE, N.C. — Crews are working to figure out what started a fire Wednesday morning that heavily damaged a home in Vale and displaced a family.
Five people and five dogs were inside when the fire broke out around 5 a.m. in the home's attic on Fairview School Road, officials said.
Three departments responded to the scene, officials said, and no one was injured.
The family told Channel 9 that the Red Cross is helping them with clothing and a place to stay.
