How the Sahara desert is impacting hurricane season in our area

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — All is quiet in the tropics during hurricane season right now, and the main reason is a desert 5,000 miles away from Charlotte.

This time of the year, it's not uncommon for dust from the Sahara desert to get caught by strong winds over Africa and lofted up into the atmosphere.
