Huntersville man faces murder charge after wife dies

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A Huntersville man is facing an upgraded charge of second-degree murder after his wife died from injuries sustained in a domestic assault, police said.

Cody Franklin Porter Jr., 66, was charged following the death of 65-year-old Sandra Porter on Thursday, Oct. 1.

Officers with the Huntersville Police Department responded to a home in the 12000 block of McGinnis Lane at approximately 6:37 p.m. on Sept. 22 to assist paramedics. Upon arrival, officers found Sandra Porter unresponsive, and an investigation determined her husband had allegedly strangled her.

Following the initial response, Sandra Porter was transported to an area hospital, where she remained under medical treatment until she died on Oct. 1.

Cody Porter was initially arrested on charges of assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

Detectives subsequently charged Cody Porter with second-degree murder based on the victim’s death, original assault circumstances, and additional medical and investigative findings.

Department officials stated that no further information will be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation and pending court proceedings.
