Huntersville names new park after unanimous vote

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Tuesday night, town commissioners voted on the new name for the town’s newest park.

Originally, community members proposed that the park next to Fire Station 4 be named after a fallen firefighter, Jeff Hanger.

However, according to the Parks and Recreation Commission, its current policy discourages naming parks after people.

Ultimately, commissioners unanimously voted to name the area First Responders Park.

They also discussed the possibility of changing the rules when it comes to naming parks in the future.
