UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A Monroe teenager is facing felony sex charges just days before his 18th birthday.

Police said Aaron Honeycutt abused two young children, but their investigation is still under way.

Investigators said they arrested Honeycutt after a week-long investigation that began after someone called 911 telling the dispatcher that sex acts occurred with children.

"After conducting the interviews, enough evidence was brought to light that this individual was placed under arrest," said Union County Sheriff Sgt. Kevin James.

Deputies told Channel 9 the victims are a boy and a girl, both under the age of 7.

Investigators have not said how Honeycutt knew the children or how long the abuse occurred.

Police said they don't believe there are any other victims.

"It's tragic. It really is at that early of an age," James said.

Honeycutt was arrested Tuesday at Piedmont High School.

Relatives at his home refused to answer questions about the allegations.

The high school senior remains in jail on a $250,000 bond. His first court appearance is Feb. 18.
