Investigators say Caldwell Co. fire is suspicious

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators are looking into what they’re calling a suspicious fire that broke out in Caldwell County early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to a home on Grace Chapel Road around 2 a.m. Two people were home at the time and escaped safely, officials said.

Robbie Wilkie, Caldwell County fire marshal/emergency management coordinator, said there were multiple points of origin and that the fire appears to have been intentionally set.

Investigators estimated damages at around $5,000, with fire damage to the garage, basement and back porch. Wilkie said there was also vandalism to three vehicles parked in the driveway and the garage.
