Is NoDa the next expansion opportunity for this local brewery?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — D9 Brewing Co. is eyeing space in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood.

The Cornelius brewery says it is conducting due diligence tied to a 6,000-square-foot facility at 954 N. Davidson St. If that checks out, D9 could close on that property by late summer, said Andrew Durstewitz, chief executive and co-owner.

He anticipates investing just shy of $3 million in that building, which dates to the 1930s. The multi-level space will take advantage of the original wood and character, with a speakeasy-style bar planned. A rooftop bar will be added if it is structurally sound as well. There also will be space for outdoor events and entertainment.

Plans call for that location to be called D9 Brewing — the Fermenteria. It’s a nod to the different fermentation techniques used in beer and food. Expect D9’s sour and wild-fermented ales to be paired with small-plate and bakery options, such as burgers topped with kimchi or fresh-baked breads.

“This is a concept I’ve not seen done anywhere else,” Durstewitz says.
