CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A second-grader in Caldwell County is trying to help her classmates this Christmas.
With the help of her teachers at Sawmills Elementary, 7-year-old Madalynn Lambert started a clothing drive for hats, gloves and scarves.

What started out as a small clothing drive has spread across the county with collection boxes at more than a dozen businesses.
Madalynn came up with the idea after asking her mother about the gloves and hats she had planned on donating to her church.
She told her mom that many of her classmates were in need of such items, and that’s how the “Boggins for Smart Noggins” clothing drive started.
Channel 9 reporter Dave Faherty walked through the school Monday and could see a Christmas tree decorated with the gloves and hats children will receive this winter.
“Me and my mommy were cleaning out hats and gloves and I said, ‘Mommy, can I take some to my school for my friends to have this winter?’” Madalyyn said.
“It’s a blessing to us, not only to our school, but also other kids and communities that benefit from this clothing drive that she actually organized,” her teacher, Brad Wright, said.
So far, Madalynn has collected 1,400 items.
There are 20 businesses, along with the school, collecting hats and gloves. The clothing drive runs through Wednesday.
