Juvenile suspect saved by life-saving technique after break-in injury

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Mooresville Police applied a life-saving technique to save a juvenile suspect who suffered severe blood loss during a break-in Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a breaking and entering in progress at Race Tobacco and Vapor, located at 335-V West Plaza Drive.

A resident called police after seeing an individual break the shop’s front glass window and run away on foot.

After arriving on scene, officers found a smashed window and a substantial trail of blood leading away from the business toward a nearby Walmart.

Officers followed the blood trail and found the injured suspect hiding behind shopping carts near the front of the Walmart. The youth suffered severe blood loss from multiple lacerations.

Mooresville officers applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding before Mooresville Fire-Rescue and EMS arrived to take over medical care.

EMS personnel then transported the suspect to a nearby hospital.

Police noted that the citizen’s prompt call helped save the suspect’s life.

Juvenile petitions and criminal charges will be filed and served after the suspect is released from the hospital.
