Lancaster City Council votes 4-2 to fire police chief

LANCASTER, S.C. — The Lancaster City Council voted Tuesday night to fire police chief Scott Grant.

City Council members discussed firing Grant nearly two weeks after he was placed on paid administrative leave. Officials said city leaders voted 4-2 to fire the police chief.

The reason behind his firing is unknown at this time.

City officials told Channel 9 that Grant was placed on paid administrative leave on Friday, April 30. The details about why he was on leave were not released.

Patrol Captain Phillip Hall served as officer-in-charge while Grant was on leave.

Grant has been in law enforcement for 34 years and spent 22 of those years with the Lancaster Police Department, according to the department’s website. He was named chief in 2017.
