LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Lancaster County deputies charged a 16-year-old with murder after a man was found shot to death Saturday night.
Deputies found Jeffery Dale Barrett, 42, at about 8:15 p.m. in a ditch on Thomasville Street, officials said.
Based on evidence recovered at the scene and accounts from witnesses, officials located Derrick Leron Stalk, 16, in a nearby home on Evans Drive just hours after the call to deputies.
Officials charged Stalk as an adult with murder and took him to a Department of Juvenile Justice detention facility in Columbia early Sunday morning.
"We appreciate the assistance of people in the community who had information about this case and came forward. With their assistance we were able to quickly locate and arrest Stalk," Sheriff Barry Faile said.
