CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Crews are working to remove a large tree that fell early Friday morning across a busy east Charlotte road.
The tree came crashing down around 4 a.m. on Plott Road, near Robinson Church Road, taking down power lines and knocking out power to nearly 100 customers in the area.
Plott Road, between Robinson Church Road and Charette Court, is blocked while crews work to clear the tree from the road and fix the power lines and poles.
Duke Energy crews told Channel 9 that the when the tree fell, it broke two power poles in half, bringing down two sets of lines. Most customers that lost power will not have it restored until after noon.

Police also said that a car on Plott Road hit the tree when it toppled over, but that person was OK.
It’s unclear what caused the tree to fall, but officials told Channel 9 they expect the road to be closed until at least 4 p.m.
