CHARLOTTE, N.C. — There’s LoSo. MoRA. FreeMoreWest. The Gold District. As Charlotte itself has grown, so has the number of (sometimes cringeworthy) names tossed about to identify various neighborhoods and areas within the city.

This week, there’s much talk about a new one: the Mill District, which encompasses NoDa, Optimist Park, Villa Heights and Belmont neighborhoods to the north of uptown. The name is a nod to the former textile mills in that part of town, some of which have been converted into swanky apartments or mixed-use centers.
However, not everyone is sold on the concept.
