CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-based LendingTree Inc. has made its final payment on a $19 million, class-action settlement tied to its QuoteWizard insurance subsidiary, but a new legal fight is just beginning.
The company disclosed the payment on July 31 in its second-quarter 10-Q filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Days prior to that filing, a new lawsuit landed. A proposed, nationwide class action was filed July 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, alleging LendingTree sent promotional text messages that failed to include required caller identification information.
Both cases center on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The law restricts unsolicited telemarketing calls and texts to consumers and requires marketers to properly identify themselves.
