Local businessman Elliott Close selling Fort Mill home on Lake Wylie for $3.85M

FORT MILL, S.C. — A local restaurateur and developer has put his lakefront home on Lake Wylie up for sale at $3.85 million, which currently logs in as the most expensive resale listing in the York County market.

Elliott Close, who is involved in several restaurants in the Rock Hill and Fort Mill areas, is selling his longtime home on River Ridge Place in order to downsize, said listing agent Paige Boykin with Boykin Property Group | eXp Realty. That more than 10,000-square-foot home has six bedrooms and seven and a half bathrooms.

Close, whose family also was behind former Fort Mill textile manufacturing company Springs Industries, is the home’s original owner. He built the A-frame section of the house in 1975 and expanded it in 1990 with more than 7,500 square feet of living space, Boykin said.

Among the home’s notable features are its steel beam construction, solarium, four gas fireplaces, extensive millwork and floor-to-ceiling windows, walk-out basement with a second primary bedroom, temperature-controlled wine cellar that can hold 8,000 bottles and two large decks with lake views.

It has housed a notable guest. Actor Mel Gibson stayed in the home when filming The Patriot, which hit theaters in 2000.
