Local group holds Father’s Day family cookout in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s a very special day for a lot of dads out there and the Charlotte community is coming together to make this Father’s Day special despite the pandemic.

The group Gloves Up, Gloves Down organized a Father’s Day family cookout near Nations Ford and Slaton Road. The event lasted until 11 p.m. Sunday.

At the event, there was a boxing ring, along with music and food.

“We’re trying to make this a regular thing to where we start bringing the community together,” organizer Corvarius Hellams said. “There’s so much division going on in the world today that we’re just trying to make everybody get on one accord.”
