CHARLOTTE — Amidst the growing demand for nurses across the country, a local program has found success offering an accelerated track, allowing students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 16 months.
Traditionally, a similar program could last up to four years.

Officials at Northeastern University Charlotte said the accelerated program is possible, in part, because applicants have already completed non-nursing courses prior to enrolling in the program.
There are more than 175,000 nursing openings annually, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
