Local organization holds community health drive-thru event for immigrant, refugee families

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Studies have shown that COVID-19 disproportionately affects immigrant and refugee families, and on Saturday, community groups provided health services for such families.

OurBRIDGE for KIDS and Atrium Health teamed up for a free community health drive-thru event in east Charlotte.

The event provided COVID-19 screenings and testing, flu shots and masks for families. Food, school supplies and coats also were available.

“I think it’s so important, especially to the immigrant and refugee community. There’s someone here that’s thinking about them," said Shani Mann, a volunteer coordinator for ourBRIDGE for KIDS. “We are passing out information about the 3 W’s in five languages.”

During the event, almost 400 cars with more than 1,000 people came through.
