ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — On Saturday, loved ones gathered to remember a Rowan County teen who was hit and killed while waiting for the bus.
On Thursday morning, 17-year-old Makinzy Smith died. He was a junior at West Rowan High School.
The school principal told Eyewitness News that Smith was very well-rounded in the ROTC.
The woman who hit the teen, Barbara Smith, is charged with felony passing a stopped school bus.
Troopers said they think she was distracted.
